What is a DER?
A Designated Employer Representative is the owner or an employee authorized to receive testing information and make required employer decisions. This includes taking immediate action to remove a driver from safety-sensitive work when required. A testing provider cannot take over the employer’s DER role.
What the training covers
- Testing notifications and collection coordination.
- Random selections and DOT testing procedures.
- Understanding results and required employer actions.
- Records and program documentation.
Practical support, with clear responsibilities
Our training helps the designated person understand how to manage testing communications and act on the information they receive. The company retains responsibility for employment decisions and its DOT obligations. DER training is not a federally required certification and does not replace reasonable suspicion supervisor training.
Choose the right representative
Designate someone with the authority and availability to respond to testing information. Contact QuickLabs to discuss training availability, format, and pricing for that person. We can also discuss testing or random-pool needs alongside the training.
